For years I have been working a lot in sketchbooks. These typically are hardbound with spiral sides and are 12 x 9 inches. They are filled with drawings of plants and fish or turtles ... made on site. My favorite places are the High Line and the New York Botanical Garden. I have been recording the dates that these drawing were made. It's interesting to see how blooming times vary from Spring to Spring. Then back at the studio, things are sometimes added to these sketches. i.e. ink, paint, markers, other drawings made in museums and more often a collagraph print of Little Betty Jane. Sketchbooks are a place for me to try out new ideas and to build something ... they can feel like artist books.
